Private Tour to Patra

Patras is the third largest city of Greece and is the largest financial, commercial and cultural center of Peloponnese. During the four millenniums of its history and especially in the Roman period, Patras became a cosmopolitan center of the Mediterranean, and according to Christian tradition is the place of martyrdom of the Apostle Andrew. In 807 AD, the city was besieged by Slavs. Later it fell into the hands of the Franks, Venetians and finally the Turks. It is called gate of Greece to the West, as it is an international trading center, a large port and a focal point for trade and communication with Italy and the European West.

During the tour you will see the Ancient Odeon, the oldest in Greece, the old city of Patras and the stairs that connects it with the center. Also the marina, the main square named King George I, the square of 3 Allies with the solar clock and the harbor. You will have the opportunity to navigate the city’s footpaths and beautiful squares. You can go shopping or relax and drink a coffee in the nice sea view coffee shops. You’ll also have free time for lunch at one of dozens of restaurants located in the city center as well as to buy souvenirs or anything else you wish.

After the city tour you can visit if you want the church of Saint Andrew the Apostle where St. Andrew was martyred by the early Christian times. In 1770, burned and destroyed by Turks and Albanians. In 1836, on the initiative of 148 citizens of Patras, began the erection of the church of St. Andrew and ended the year 1843. The new church was founded on June 1, 1908 by King George A’. The church officially launched on September 26, 1974 and is the largest church in Greece.

Patras also has a new Archaeological Museum which houses the history of Patras through 1300 exhibits. The private life comes alive with representations of buildings and floor mosaics that adorned the houses of rich Roman Patras. In Necropolis the visitor becomes privy to the ancient beliefs about death from the prehistoric to Roman times. The new Archaeological Museum is set in a modern building.

On the way back you can also take a tour at the Achaia Clauss Winery where the Bavarian Gustav Clauss in 1859 is purchasing a 60 acre area on the outskirts of Patras and plant vines. In 1861 he decided to create the first community of Greek wine called Achaia Clauss. From 1883 until 1908 the company focused on producing fine wines such as “Mavrodaphne”.

With this private tour you will enjoy the view of the ultramodern bridge of Rio-Antirio which connects Rio with Antirio, connecting Peloponnese with mainland Greece.

Athens

This tour is highly suggested for all of you who have only one day to visit and explore Athens!!! Athens, the capital of Greece after its independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1834 is one of the most visited places in Greece. Athens is a city of great cultural interest as well as a bustling, modern city. The harmonious and perfectly balanced combination between the old and the new make Athens unique.

Athens is a city full of remarkable monuments and great historical places such as the Acropolis, Parthenon, Agora, Temple of Zeus, the first Olympic stadium and many more. This tour will give you the opportunity to observe the striking contrasts of ancient and modern that makes Athens such a fascinating city.

We suggest we start our private tour by visiting the so called “sacred rock”, the Acropolis. Here you will see the Parthenon that was dedicated to goddess Athena, Propylea, the monumental entrance to the sacred area, the temple of Athena Nike which was dedicated to Athena-Nike (Victory) the Erechtheion with its famous female figures-statues the Caryatides or Maidens dedicated to both goddess Athena and god Poseidon. The Odeum of Herodus Atticus and the ruins of the first theatre in the whole world the Theatre of Dionysus and finally the Areopagus (Mars Hill).

We will proceed to the Temple of Olympian Zeus and then to Panathenaic or Kallimarmaro Stadium which hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.

After that we suggest a rest time to the oldest and most picturesque neighborhood of Athens, Plaka (stone-paved narrow streets, traditional Greek tavernas souvenir stores). After some free time in Plaka where you can enjoy a nice meal we’ll drive through the city centre to the area of the Flea Market, Ancient Agora and the temple of Hephaistos, known also as Theseum (best preserved ancient temple in Greece) .

Our tour will be completed with our visit to the National Archaeological Museum, the biggest museum in Greece with one of the most important archaeological collections in the world.

OR with a visit to the New Acropolis Museum, “Home” of the Parthenon Marbles, important and impressive archaeological findings.
