Nafplio - Epidavros
Nafplio – Epidaurus private tour
Nafplio – Epidaurus private tour: contrast of the modern city of Nafplio to the remains of the glorious past, one of the must visit places.
This private tour is a trip to some of the most important archaeological sites of Greece but also to the beautiful town Nafplio with its old castle, in the most characteristic Greek-Mediterranean scenery of Peloponnese.
Nafplio was the first capital of modern Greece and boasts an impressive Venetian fortress, the ‘Palamidi’. Instead of walking up the thousand steps to the fortress, we will drive up and enjoy the view of Nafplio and the Gulf of Argolis. From here we will also see the islet of Bourtzi; on top of which stands a fortified castle which seems to be afloat in the middle of the bay of Nafplion.ου Setting off from Nafplio we will visit two of the UNESCO World Heritage sites, the famous Mycenae and the ancient theater of Epidavros while enjoying the wonderful and picturesque natural scenery of the region.
Driving through the hills of Corinth, among thousands of olive trees and vineyards, we’ll arrive at prefecture of Epidaurus where we’ll visit the archaeological site of Mycenae. Mycenae, ‘Rich in Gold’, was the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon, who dominated the Aegean Sea after the distraction of the Minoan Empire. You will see the Cyclopean Walls, the Lion’s Gate, the Royal Tombs, including Agamemnon Clytemnestra’s, and the Treasury of Atreus, a magnificent 14th-century B.C. structure.
Before reaching the site of Epidaurus we shall stop for lunch at a local tavern and enjoy the regional cuisine.
After driving through the winding roads of Argolis, we are going to visit Epidaurus, the UNESCO’S world heritage listed monument, famous for its ancient theatre one of the best preserved classical Greek buildings and still used today due to its amazing acoustics and the sanctuary of Asclepios.
*All our private tours are flexible. It is always up to you to change the program according to your wishes.
**Admission fees and lunch are not included in the price of the tour.
